Lisa Polisar's THE GHOST OF MARY PRAIRIE (Albuquerque: Univ. of New Mexico Press, 2006; 273 pp., $18.95) is a ghost story and a mystery, set in rural southern Oklahoma in 1961 and well written and nicely told. The protagonist is 15-year-old Jacob Leeds, who enjoys the Sherlock Holmes stories, and quotes from them from time to time.
